“I’m not Very Good at Playing with my Kid”

Many Boulder dads want a deeper physical connection with their kids, but often find themselves returning to familiar patterns or unsure how to expand play in ways that feel both creative and safe.

You want to show up strong, steady, and fully present, turning ordinary playtime with kids into something powerful and lasting.

That’s exactly why Ryder Turner concocted this play-based series.

What is Father Strength in Play Boulder

This program isn’t a fitness bootcamp or a parenting lecture. It’s a practical, progressive six-week experience (with a special kick-off introductory workshop) designed specifically for fathers who want to build the strength, skill, and relational presence to engage more freely and safely with their kids.

Through guided movement, cooperative challenges, functional strength training, and real-world roughhousing practice, you’ll develop the carrying, stabilizing, balancing, and recovering abilities that translate directly into more confident, joyful play at home, in the yard, or at the park.

Fathers Build Strength, Skill & Relational Presence Through Movement

The Father Strength in Play Boulder Series is a 6-week cohort experience for dads who want to deepen their physical capability, build steadiness under pressure, and grow more confident and creative in how they show up with their children in play.

Many fathers want to be more physically engaged with their children, but over time may feel less confident moving on the ground or navigating playful, physical environments, especially after long days spent sitting or working.

At the same time, it’s not always clear what else to do beyond familiar patterns. Expanding the range of play can unlock new moments of joy, adaptation, and connection, allowing different aspects of the relationship to emerge.

This program creates a space to rebuild that confidence and explore new ways of moving and playing together.

Through progressive training and guided challenges, participants build the strength to move with more ease, learn how to lift and roughhouse safely, practice staying steady as intensity rises, and develop the confidence that turns physical play into connection rather than hesitation.

Blending functional strength training, cooperative games, athletic development, partner challenges, and guided dialogue, Father Strength in Play Boulder supports fathers in becoming more capable and adaptable at home, on the floor, in the yard, and across the long arc of fatherhood.

Through structured, progressive training sessions, participants develop foundational capacities including carrying, stabilizing, sprinting, balancing, recovering, weight-sharing, and skillful roughhousing.

These skills build measurable strength, coordination, joint resilience, and composure under intensity while offering practical, adaptable tools fathers can immediately use in physical play with their kids.

This is not a fitness bootcamp or a parenting seminar. It is a structured, progressive training experience where strength translates into relationship and play becomes more skillful.

Fathers leave the series feeling stronger, more capable in their bodies, and more confident in how they care for their physical health. They walk away with a practical menu of new ways to engage and play with their children, along with a renewed approach to their own movement practice that supports longevity, vitality, and adaptability.

A Note on Why Play Matters

Play is not a break from growth. It is one of the primary ways growth happens.

Through play, children develop coordination, risk assessment, emotional regulation, creativity, and social intelligence. Play teaches negotiation, boundaries, resilience, and recovery after mistakes. It is how children test themselves against the world in a safe, relational container.

When fathers engage physically in play, something unique happens.

Roughhousing, chasing, lifting, balancing, mock wrestling, and cooperative challenges teach children how to calibrate force, manage excitement, and read cues. Research consistently shows that active, physical play with parents supports emotional regulation, confidence, and social adaptability. Children learn how to navigate intensity without panic because they practice it in connection.

And this does not stop when children get older.

As kids move into middle childhood and adolescence, physical play evolves. It may look like sport, sparring, climbing, strength training, or competitive games. The format shifts, but the underlying message remains the same:I can meet you in movement. I can match your energy. I can stay steady with you.

When fathers remain physically engaged, they remain relationally accessible.
