What Youll Experience
As the fall season arrives again, here’s your chance to start something for yourself. This Iaido Japanese Swordsmanship Fundamentals Seminar is built for total beginners: two hours split into a calm, grounded first half and a hands-on second half, taught as one continuous arc rather than a lecture.
Hour One
Foundations Without the Blade
Movement quality, flexibility, posture, and awareness — guided warm-ups, footwork, seated transitions, and stance training.
Hour Two
Drawing the Blade
Proper sword handling, fundamental suburi, partner drills, and the core cutting patterns of Iaido.
This 2-hour afternoon workshop begins without swords, emphasizing movement quality, flexibility, posture, and awareness. Through guided warm-ups, sliding-foot walking, seiza transitions, and stance work, participants will develop the body mechanics that make Iai efficient, grounded, and sustainable.
In the second hour, we introduce the sword. Participants will learn proper handling, fundamental suburi, partner drills, and the core cutting patterns of Iaido.
The seminar concludes with a short demonstration, seated meditation, and a formal bow-out— followed by a casual tea tasting to close the afternoon.
